Excitement Builds in Jacksonville for Annual Georgia-Florida Game

EverBank Field Ready to Host Bulldogs and Gators
 
The University of Georgia will take home field against the University of Florida on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 3:30 p.m. at EverBank Field for the annual Georgia-Florida Football Classic, played in Jacksonville since 1933.

“The Georgia-Florida Football Classic has always been much more than just a game,” said Mayor Alvin Brown. “It’s a great Jacksonville tradition and a hugely popular get-together for students, alumni and fans from Florida, Georgia and beyond.  It brings many benefits to our city, including the positive economic impact from so many out-of-town visitors and the spotlight it shines on Jacksonville as a leading destination for big-time sports.  This promises to be a great week for Jacksonville and a great week for the Gator and Bulldog fans who’ll be joining us from far and wide.”

The rivalry weekend will include the 19th Annual Merrill Lynch/Bank of America Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame Luncheon presented by Ruth's Chris Steak House, RV City presented by Winn-Dixie, the official Georgia-Florida Tailgate Party presented by Cheney Brothers, TAILGATE Concert, Touchdown Showdown, the Adams Street Experience and the Met Park 2 Experience. 
Touchdown Showdown, the Adams Street Experience and the Met Park 2 Experience will create the ultimate game-day fan experience with interactive games and displays, food and beverage, commemorative merchandise, and two jumbo screens to show the game. There will be no alcohol sales in this area.

The City of Jacksonville will host six Sideline Safety Zones presented by Williams Scotsman in the Sports Complex and throughout Downtown.  The Sideline Safety Zone sites will provide free assistance ranging from basic medical help, first aid, transportation, directions, telephone service, food, water, coffee and more. Heavy traffic is expected on game day. Fans should prepare to utilize transportation alternatives such as the JTA Park-n-Ride and stadium shuttle services. Information regarding locations and or shuttle stops is attached. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office website, www.jaxsheriff.org, and the official game website, www.flga.org, will have regular updates on game day traffic and transportation.

Crews are working to put the finishing touches on EverBank Field ahead of the game.  The City has worked very closely with both the University of Georgia and the University of Florida to make sure the teams, alumni, students and fans once again have a memorable experience in Jacksonville. 
 
The transformation of EverBank Field began Sunday, Oct. 19, following the Jaguars victory over the Cleveland Browns. About 13,000 modular seats are being installed inside the stadium to expand to 82,917 seats.  
 
“I’m sure the fans of both Georgia and Florida will be very excited about the improvements and additions to EverBank Field, with special emphasis on the magnificent new video boards,” said Greg McGarity, Director of Athletics at the University of Georgia.  “It’s a tribute to the City of Jacksonville and all those who consider the fan experience to be a top priority for one of the country’s great rivalries.”  
 
“We are very appreciative of the collective efforts and commitments by all parties to make the Florida-Georgia game a memorable experience for fans attending the game,” said University of Florida Athletics Director Jeremy Foley. “It has always been a great atmosphere in Jacksonville, but there will certainly be an enhanced experience for fans attending the game this year.”
 
The City of Jacksonville is committed to continuing the best rivalry in college football at EverBank Field.  The City worked in conjunction with the Jaguars to ensure the best possible game day experience inside the stadium.
 
“The Jaguars are proud of the newest enhancements to EverBank Field, and we hope everyone attending Saturday’s game agrees that they help create a great in-stadium atmosphere,” said Jaguars President Mark Lamping. “We think fans will be impressed and we hope they enjoy a great game day experience.”

The game is one of the cornerstone annual events for Jacksonville, creating an economic impact of more than $30 million each year.
 
“This is yet another opportunity for Jacksonville to showcase world class EverBank Field’s multi-use capability to a national audience,” said Bill McConnell, General Manager, SMG Jacksonville.  “Many of the attending Georgia, Florida, and SEC football fans will be visiting EverBank for the first time since the improvements were completed and they will have a state-of-the-art in-stadium experience, including the world’s largest video boards, a full-scale cellular/Wi-Fi system and the upgraded seating capacity. We are so thrilled to welcome back the most dedicated fans in college sports to EverBank Field and know they will be amazed by the most fan-friendly, interactive stadium in the world. ”
 
The Georgia-Florida football game is a rivalry game that has become a long-standing tradition in Jacksonville for residents and visitors alike.
