The City of Jacksonville will host an event for children ages 5-12 and their families at the Main Library on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in honor of “Celebrate Reading Week.”
Mayor Donna Deegan will join the festivities to discuss her
River City Readers program and increasing the citywide reading goal to one million minutes, after hitting the previous goal of 300,000 minutes in just over a month.
“I’m beyond excited and encouraged that readers of all ages have responded so enthusiastically to the River City Readers challenge,” said Deegan. “In just one month they’ve already blown right past the goal we’ve set for the year. I know together we can reach one million minutes.”
Attendees are encouraged to dress as a character from their favorite book and will have the opportunity to pick up free books from Read USA, a River City Readers backpack, lunch, and more.
Daniel Tiger, Peg + Cat, and Molly of Denali from PBS Kids will also make an appearance.
There will be activities on the 1st and 2nd floors and lots of tables to visit along the way with information for parents and fun giveaways for kids.
