Authorities, Mayor Brown Urge Jacksonville to Take Part in Thursday Game

With support from executives of Jacksonville’s independent authorities, Mayor Alvin Brown urged the city to rally in support of the Jaguars as the team takes the national stage Thursday night at EverBank Field.

The Jaguars will host the Houston Texans in a primetime NFL game, and the independent authorities and the City of Jacksonville urged the community to show its support of the home team. The NFL Network will broadcast the game and put Jacksonville on display again as a topflight site for major football games and other sporting events.

“The Jaguars undoubtedly will bring everything they have to win the game, and our city should step up, too,” Mayor Brown said. “As executives of government agencies, we want to show the national audience that our Downtown and our community embraces being a top destination for football and events. Our residents and businesses have a great opportunity to enjoy festivities at EverBank Field.”
The event today showcased support from the Downtown Investment Authority, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, JaxPort and JEA. Mayor Brown urged city businesses to allow employees to participate in pre-game festivities at EverBank Field, and urged government employees to show their support and turn out, too.

"Once again, Jacksonville has the opportunity to show itself on the international stage, and the JAA is proud to join the city, our sister authorities and the business community as a partner supporting this event," said Steve Grossman, chief executive officer and executive director of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority.

The evening’s activities will include a giant tailgate party, hosted by the Jaguars, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in Lot TT at the south end of the stadium. Anyone with a game ticket will have free access to the tailgate. The more adventurous fans can ride a mechanical bull. Two live bands - Split Tone and Charlie Walker - will complete the party atmosphere. Families are also encouraged to come downtown and bring the kids for the fun as the interactive Kids Zone will be open for pre-game festivities.

Any company, group, or organization wishing to participate and join the party should contact the Jaguars group sales department to inquire about special discounts for groups of 10 or more. The Jaguars can also coordinate pregame tailgate activities and VIP hospitality options for your group. Individual game tickets may be purchased at www.jaguars.com.
