City Activates Heat Emergency Plan on August 14

August 14, 2024
The City of Jacksonville has designated August 14, 2024, as a Heat Emergency Day because it is the seventh consecutive day a Heat Advisory (maximum heat index is expected to be between 108°F and 112°F) has been issued for Duval County.

Cooling Centers are available at various City of Jacksonville (COJ) facilities, which include:
  • All COJ Public Libraries
  • COJ Community Centers
  • COJ Splashpads
These facilities will operate during their typical hours.

Additionally, free transportation to Cooling Centers will be provided by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) on designated Heat Emergency days. Riders must tell bus drivers that they are traveling to a cooling center to receive free fare.
