City Activates Heat Emergency Plan on August 11

The City of Jacksonville has designated August 11, 2024 as a Heat Emergency Day because it is the fourth consecutive day a Heat Advisory (maximum heat index is expected to be between 108°F and 112°F) has been issued for Duval County.
Updated Locations for Today: Cooling Centers are available at the following locations identified for Sunday and holiday activations:
  • Main Library (303 N. Laura Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202)
  • Legends Center (5130 Soutel Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32208)
These facilities will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Additionally, free transportation to Cooling Centers will be provided by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) on designated Heat Emergency days. Riders must tell bus drivers that they are traveling to a cooling center to receive free fare.
