Cathedral Terrace Housing For Seniors To Receive Upgrades
April 21, 2015
Cathedral Terrace Apartments in Downtown Jacksonville will receive major renovations as part of the latest Renew Jax project announced Tuesday by Mayor Alvin Brown, City Council Member Kimberly Daniels and other local leaders.
As part of its expanding Renew Jax efforts, the City of Jacksonville will contribute $803,000 in State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program funding toward the $27 million project. The funding includes a combination of private tax credit financing and state and Jacksonville Housing Finance Authority sources.
“We’re proud to invest in our seniors because they’ve invested in us by raising families, strengthening neighborhoods and building businesses here in Jacksonville,” said Mayor Brown. “These renovations will positively impact the lives of more than 250 low-income elderly and disabled adults by enhancing an important Downtown property to support a higher quality of life for residents.”
Cathedral Terrace houses 240 one-bedroom units reserved exclusively for low-income residents who are elderly or disabled. Since its establishment in 1974, Cathedral Terrace has been sponsored by the nonprofit agency Aging True, which aims to enable seniors to live home-based, independent lifestyles.
