Mayor Joins City and Community Leaders for Blight Demolition
A successful city is characterized by its robust and vibrant neighborhoods - neighborhoods where citizens feel safe, have access to quality infrastructure, are supported by a thriving economy, and take pride in their surroundings. A Jacksonville neighborhood, once ridden with crime, experienced a “groundbreaking” effort unlike any other.
In preparation of the development of Payne Avenue Walk – a 12-unit affordable single family home complex located in one of the city’s most vulnerable communities, Mayor Lenny Curry, city council members, contractors and representatives with Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corporation led a demolition of the current facility.
For decades, the Payne Avenue community has been plagued with crime, violence, blight and other conditions that erode public safety and quality living. Located near the Rails to Trails pathway, Payne Avenue Walk represents the City of Jacksonville’s commitment to building and strengthening programs and investing in neighborhoods that promote quality living for residents throughout Jacksonville.
