Brett Mereness joined the Office of General Counsel in July 2019. Prior to joining the Office of General Counsel, Mr. Mereness was an Associate with Cole, Scott & Kissane, P.A., where he litigated civil cases in the areas of Commercial Motor Vehicle Defense, Labor & Employment, Premises Liability, Personal Injury, Professional Malpractice, HOA/Condo Law, and General Civil Defense. Before private practice, Mr. Mereness was an Assistant State Attorney in the 4th Judicial Circuit. As a prosecutor, he completed over 40 jury trials including first-chair trial experience resulting in sentences up to and including mandatory life in prison.
Mr. Mereness attended the University of Florida where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with honors. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law, where he graduated cum laude. During law school, Mr. Mereness served as a two-year editor on the FSU Law Business Review, and clerked for law firms in both Tampa and Tallahassee,
Attorney Mereness is a member of the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Courts, Middle District and Northern District of Florida.
