Derrel Q. Chatmon is a Senior Assistant General Counsel.  Mr. Chatmon’s practice areas focus on litigation with an emphasis in labor and employment. Mr. Chatmon previously served as Chief Deputy from 2012-2015 and Chief of Labor & Employment in July 2012 and Assistant General Counsel in the General Litigation, Government Operations and Tort Departments in December 1999.

Prior to joining the Office, Mr. Chatmon received his B.A. degree in economics from the University of Florida in 1993. During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Chatmon was a member and officer of Delta Sigma Pi, a National Business Honor Society. Mr. Chatmon was also a Senator and Committee Chairman for the University of Florida Student Government Association.

Mr. Chatmon then attended the University of Florida College of Law and graduated in December 1996. During his legal studies, Mr. Chatmon wrote onto the Florida Journal of International Law with a note regarding the protection of intellectual property rights in China and the resulting effects on companies in the United States.

Subsequent to his law school graduation, Mr. Chatmon worked as an Assistant Public Defender for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida. As an Assistant Public Defender, Mr. Chatmon defended clientele charged with felony matters including armed robberies, drug trafficking, and attempted murder.
