The City of Jacksonville Sports & Entertainment Office announced on Wednesday that the 2012 Navy-Marine Corps Classic will be presented by Florida Blue.
“We’re excited to have Florida Blue come on as the presenting sponsor for this great event,” said Mayor Alvin Brown. “We have a tremendous group of corporate partners working with us to make this event a memorable part of the Week of Valor.”
“Florida Blue is very proud to be the presenting sponsor of this year’s Navy-Marine Corps Classic,” said Patrick Geraghty, chairman and CEO of Florida Blue. “Our country owes a great deal to the men and women who selflessly serve our country and Florida Blue believes it has a responsibility to support our troops during the Week of Valor events and throughout the year.”
Florida Blue, Florida’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield company, is a leader in Florida’s healthcare industry based in Jacksonville. Florida Blue has approximately 4 million healthcare members and covers 15.5 million people in 16 states through its affiliated companies.
The Navy-Marine Corps Classic basketball game will be held aboard the USS Bataan, one of three representational Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) ships that will be stationed in Jacksonville by the end of 2013. The game, between the University of Florida and Georgetown University, will kick off the NCAA basketball season.
The Week of Valor in November serves as a way to come together as a community and honor those who serve, reflect on their sacrifices and celebrate their lives.
