The National Archives are the official repository for record of the United States military and other government agencies.  These records include
  • Military personnel service records  Recent military service and medical records are not online.  However, most veterans and their next of kin can obtain free copies of their DD 214 (Report of Seperation) and the following miltary service records any of the ways listed.  
  • Textual documents including unit reports and rosters; maps and plans; photographs; posters; motion pictures and sound recordings; and electronic records
