The Nantes Committee invites you to gather at the Magnificat Cafe during the May Art Walk as they join the city in recognizing “French Week” in Jacksonville! You will find French Cabaret Songs, in particular, the music associated with Edith Piaf and enjoying the wonderful quiches prepared by Benoit.

MOSH is proud to partner with the Public Trust Environmental Legal Institute of Florida to present the winning works of the Timucua-Mocama Art Contest, whose mission is to create excitement and interest in presenting a more authentic portrayal of the scenes depicted in the classic Le Moyne/de Bry works published in 1591.

Come out to Fort Caroline and experience living history! There will be different interactive programs where you can learn about life for the newly arrived Europeans in Florida during the 16th century. Programs could include cooking demonstrations, hands-on weapons training and a chance to try on some replica historic clothing.

French in Florida, on display in the Museum’s third-floor Loft Gallery, is comprised of 42 digital reproductions of historic Jacques Le Moyne and Theodore de Bry engravings of 16th century Florida which chronicle the French attempt to establish a settlement in Florida and their experiences with the Timucua Indians. These digital images are made possible by a donation to the State Archives of Florida from the personal collection of Michael W. and Dr. Linda Fisher of Jacksonville, Florida.
