The Military Affairs and Veterans Department (MAVD) will continue to offer its free tax filing services for veterans and their families through May 17.

The City of Jacksonville’s Housing and Community Development Division will distribute more than $4 million of federal funds to Duval County residents who are unable to pay their mortgage payments due to a loss of income related to COVID-19. The Mortgage Relief Program will begin accepting applications on Wednesday, March 31, at 8 a.m.

Mayor Lenny Curry proposes long-term funding solution to Jacksonville’s infrastructure needs
 
This morning, Mayor Lenny Curry announced plans for the “Jobs for Jax” program. The “Jobs for Jax” program, in partnership with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), would address transportation and infrastructure needs with a $.06 cent increase to the Local Option Gas Tax (LOGT). This proposed tax would fund nearly $1 billion in projects to improve railways, fix drainage issues and create jobs. The City and JTA would evenly split the $.06 increase. 
 
“With these funds, we will move quickly to begin work on as many transportation projects in the Capital Improvements Plan as we can, which means more construction jobs, safer and better-quality roads, and more economic opportunities for our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Curry.

Commission encourages nominations for awards showcasing local beautification efforts

Today, Mayor Lenny Curry released a video marking the one-year anniversary of his Emergency Executive Proclamation declaring a state of emergency for Duval County in response to COVID-19.

While Duval County residents are preparing to set their clocks forward one hour for Daylight Saving Time, the City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Quality Division is reminding them to set lawn and landscape irrigation schedules to no more than two days per week.
