As Duval County faces dangerously cold temperatures, staying warm is a top priority for many households. However, the increased use of heating equipment during winter brings a heightened risk of home fires, three of which occurred overnight. The City of Jacksonville Emergency Preparedness Division is urging residents to follow essential heating safety practices to stay warm and safe.

CITY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT AND NEW LEADERSHIP IN JFRD’S FIRE PREVENTION DIVISION

Chief Kevin Jones, who serves as Jacksonville’s Fire Marshall and leads the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department’s Fire Prevention Division, is retiring after more than 30 years with the department. His last day with JFRD is Friday, January 3, 2025.

CITY OF JACKSONVILLE HOSTS THE 38th ANNUAL MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BREAKFAST PRESENTED BY FLORIDA BLUE

The City of Jacksonville, along with its partners, the Jacksonville Branch NAACP, the Jacksonville Urban League, and the JAX Chamber, invite the community to the 38th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast presented by Florida Blue on Friday, January 17, at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center. Breakfast begins at 7 a.m., followed by the program at 8 a.m., led by hosts Dawn Lopez from Action News Jax and Anthony Austin from First Coast News. The theme of this year’s event is “Audacious Faith in the Future,” which is a phrase from Dr. King’s 1964 Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech.
