The Jacksonville City Council is composed of nineteen members who are elected for a four-year term and serve as part-time legislators. In May of each year, the Council elects a President and Vice President to serve one-year terms beginning the first of July. The nineteen members are not all elected in the same manner; some are elected from districts, and others are elected at large.

MAYOR’S OFFICE & MERIDIAN WASTE REACH CONTRACT AMENDMENT AGREEMENT PENDING CITY COUNCIL ADOPTION

The Mayor’s Office and Meridian Waste are pleased to announce a mutually agreeable resolution and compensation agreement for Area II, which covers the Northside, in lieu of legal action. Council President Randy White is introducing the proposed contract amendment as a one-cycle emergency bill at tonight’s City Council meeting.

CITY TO REINVEST NEARLY $8 MILLION INTO UNF AND JFRD PROJECTS

The City of Jacksonville undertakes a review process each year to reappropriate funding that was not spent in the previous fiscal year. $7,980,286 was identified from the 2023-2024 fiscal year during the most recent analysis. Funding for the following projects was unanimously passed by the Mayor’s Budget Review Committee today and will go to the Jacksonville City Council for review and final approval.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and assess the current unmet needs of Duval County's homeless and chronic unhoused populations, gaps in existing programs and services targeting these populations, the status of funding, the status of the RFP for the consultant for strategic plans, and any other matters within the purview of the Homelessness Initiatives Commission.
