Discrimination in Employment

Who May File:

An individual who believes he/she has been subjected to discriminatory employment actions on the basis of his/her race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, marital status or age may file a charge of discrimination when:

• The alleged discriminatory act occurred during the past 180 days up to 300 days.

• The employer or potential employer has 15 or more employees (20 employees for age-related charges).

• The employee works in or applies for a job in Jacksonville/Duval County.

Based on the facts obtained during the initial evaluation of the allegations, the JHRC may file a formal charge of discrimination against the organization identified. Please note a charge filed with the JHRC is not a lawsuit and JHRC does not accept or investigate anonymous complaints.

Please note that all visitors to JHRC's offices must go through security and check in at the visitor's desk on the first floor.

Time Limits for Filing a Charge of Employment Discrimination:

• Charges involving violations that occurred during the past 180 days are typically investigated locally by the JHRC.

• Charges involving violations that occurred during the past 181 days up to 300 days will be forwarded to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) Miami District Office for investigation.

• Charges involving violations that occurred during the past 301 to 365 days should be filed directly with the
  Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR).
