Railroad Grade Crossings
Many residents throughout Jacksonville, including children, must cross busy railroad tracks to get to school or work. The Better Jacksonville Plan funded two new elevated pedestrian walkways over busy rail lines to provide safe passage in critical areas, as well as one elevated vehicular crossing to alleviate traffic delays caused by trains.
All railroad crossing projects are complete.
New Kings Road (US 1) - South of 45th Street
A six-lane vehicular overpass was constructed to replace the existing ground-level railroad crossing.
Franklin Street - North of 17th Street
A pedestrian overpass was constructed to bridge three sets of railroad tracks at this location, providing residents safe passage over this busy crossing.
7th Street - Between Harrison and Milnor Streets
A pedestrian overpass was constructed to span the existing single-track railroad crossing, presenting walkers and runners with a continuous route over the track.
