Bill Gulliford has been a resident of Jacksonville and the Beaches community since 1954. He graduated from Bishop Kenny High School and then the University of Florida. After military service he returned to Jacksonville and joined his father’s construction equipment business, Pilot Equipment Company. He acquired the business from his father and successfully grew it until 1996 when he sold the company. Since then he has started two other businesses involved in the sale of construction equipment and currently is a partner in Major Machinery & Equipment LLC, a company involved in exporting construction equipment.
Bill was elected to the Jacksonville City Council in 2011, to represent District 13, which includes the beaches and the southeastern section of Duval County. In 2012, Bill was awarded the Charles D. Webb Award, for extraordinary commitment to public service, by out-going president, Stephen Joost. The members of the City Council unanimously elected Bill to serve as President for the 2013/2014 Council Year. Bill received the Mary L. Singleton Award for 2014-2015.
In 1988 Bill was elected mayor of Atlantic Beach and served until 1993. Prior to that, he served on the Atlantic Beach city commission.
Bill and his wife, Harriet have four children; Tripp, Thad, Katherine and Elizabeth as well as nine grandchildren, Asher, Alden, Ely, Fletcher, Owen, Hannah, Ford, Stella, and Virginia. They have resided in Atlantic Beach since 1972.
Bill and Harriet attend St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
