Bill has lived in Jacksonville since 1981 and in the Clifton area since 1992. Bill is vice president and principal of Akel, Logan and Shafer, Architects and Planners. He is a graduate of Lawrence Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and of University of Detroit Mercy with Master of Architecture and MBA degrees. Bill has a long history of community service and involvement. He served as vice president of JaxPride: A Coalition for Visual Enhancement and has been actively involved with JaxPride's neighborhood design charette program since its inception in 1997. He is a former member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. and chaired the JCCI study on affordable housing in 2000. He served on the Economic Development Advisory Committee for the Downtown Jacksonville Master Plan and the Mayor's Downtown Green Committee that worked on developing a downtown landscaping and street improvement plan to beautify downtown and enhance the pedestrian experience. He is a member of the Southside Businessmen's Club and the Meninak Club, and a board member of the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens and First Coast Tiger Bay. He was also a member of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority North/Southeast Corridor Mass Transit Citizen's Advisory Committee, and a past board member of Riverside Avondale Preservation, Inc.

Bill has also been active in the American Institute of Architects for almost 20 years, serving at both the chapter and state levels. He was the AIA Jacksonville president in 1995 and served as the AIA Florida president in 2003/2004. In 1997 he received the AIA Jacksonville John Dyal Community Service Award. He is also a founding board member and past corporate secretary of the Mellon C. Greeley, AIA Foundation, Inc., the AIA Jacksonville educational foundation.

Bill and his wife Melody were married in 1985 and attend Assumption Catholic Church. His son William H. IV (Bill), born in 1988, graduated from FSU this year. In his free time, Bill enjoys reading, bicycling, travel, camping, and photography.
