Women Veterans Recognition Week is a week-long observance celebrating achievements as well as bringing awareness to the challenges women veterans face. This ceremony is open to service members, veterans, supporters and the general public. During this special memorial service, servicewomen will be recognized for their sacrifice and dedication. The Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Wall is inscribed with eight servicewomen representing four branches of the Armed Forces and spanning eighty-eight years of history.
On Saturday, March 16th, there will be a Military Veterans' Job Fair for veterans, active duty, reserve, retired military and spouse.
With the recent appointment of Councilman Bill Gulliford to Attorney General Ashley Moody’s statewide Opioid Abuse Working Group, Jacksonville is positioned as a state leader in effective opioid abuse mitigation strategies. Mayor Lenny Curry, to be joined by Councilman Gulliford and City Council members, will sign a bill focused on opioid abuse prevention, a product of the councilman’s Opioid Epidemic Special Committee. They will also provide an update on the progress achieved by Jacksonville’s efforts.
