Confederate statues are being removed from Springfield Park
Mayor Donna Deegan announced that the Confederate statues are being removed from Springfield Park today. This memorial was erected during the peak of early 20th century Confederate monument-building, part of a widespread campaign to promote and justify Jim Crow laws in the South and intimidate African Americans.

City of Jacksonville's Get Covered Jax! Campaign a Success
On November 2, Mayor Donna Deegan, City Councilman Michael Boylan (District 6), Dr. Sunil Joshi, Chief Health Officer for the City of Jacksonville, and Lynn Sherman, Executive Director of Health Programs for the City of Jacksonville, launched Get Covered Jax!, a public education campaign to help Jacksonville residents without health insurance get covered.
