In a press conference this morning, Mayor Donna Deegan announced the city’s new plan to mitigate homelessness and address Florida HB 1365, the new state law that makes it illegal to sleep in public spaces as of October 1, 2024.

The City of Jacksonville has designated July 16, 2024, as a Heat Emergency Day because it is the third consecutive day a Heat Advisory (maximum heat index is expected to be between 108°F and 112°F) has been issued for Duval County.

Mayor Donna Deegan presented the proposed 2024-2025 budget to the Jacksonville City Council this morning. The proposal includes a $1.92 billion general fund budget and $489 million in the 2025 portion of the five-year Capital Improvement Plan, which is $1.95 billion in total from 2025-2029.

The City of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs and Veterans Department (MAVD) has been awarded a three-year grant of $271,457 per year from the U.S. Department of Labor to support the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP). The employment-focused program utilizes a case management approach to directly assist homeless veterans with access to a variety of local support services.
