The City of Jacksonville's Neighborhoods Department, Environmental Quality Division is issuing an air quality advisory, as elevated levels of Particulate Matter are occurring today and projected through the weekend. The dust storm from the Sahara has reached Florida and is contributing to elevated Particulate Matter concentrations.

“I have been briefed by JFRD Fire Chief, Keith Powers, that 214 firefighters are now in self-quarantine as a result of contact guidelines established by the CDC for COVID-19. As of this evening, 14 have tested positive for the virus,” Mayor Lenny Curry said.

Mayor Curry Responds to Increased Cases of COVID-19

“With many businesses now requiring a negative COVID-19 test result to allow employees to come to work, and with some clearly not taking this virus seriously, we are experiencing surge in numbers at testing facilities.” Mayor Lenny Curry said. “Just yesterday, 783 people were tested at Lot J, setting a record since it first opened. The Legends Center tested 270. Across the City, multiple private locations tested hundreds more for COVID-19. As a result, our positive test results are increasing, and we are aware that most of those individuals are asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms.”
